Investigations opened
There is little to no enforcement against foreign bribery in Ireland. The country accounts for 1.9 per cent of global exports, but there was only one investigation opened and no cases opened or concluded in the period between 2016 and 2019.
Ireland’s whistleblowing regime has faced criticism since 2018 for leaving employees who may report corruption cases, including foreign bribery, open to legal action and criminal prosecution.
