Copyright enquiries

Thank you for your interest in Transparency International!

We want our material to reach as wide an audience as possible, free of charge. This is why our content is covered (unless otherwise noted) by a Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs 4.0 licence.

Below are responses to the most frequently asked questions about reproducing and using our work.

If you can’t find an answer to your query then please write to us at: [email protected]

I want to reproduce content owned by Transparency International – do I need to ask permission?

No. Unless otherwise noted, Transparency International content is covered by a Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs 4.0 licence. This means you are free to use our work without contacting us as long as you comply with the terms in the licence. You comply with the terms of the licence if you credit and link to our material as follows:

CONTENT TITLE (YEAR) by Transparency International is licensed under CC-BY-ND 4.0

Please link to the TI content under the above mentioned CONTENT TITLE (YEAR).

The attribute “NoDerivs” means that it is not permitted to remix or change the content under the mentioned licence.

Please note that some of the content on our website is not owned by Transparency International – in particular images – so always check that the product is not attributed to a third party before using or sharing.

I want to use Transparency International’s data – for example from the CPI – in my work. Do I need to ask permission?

No. Although the general content is licensed under CC BY-ND 4.0, the CPI and datasets are licensed under CC BY 4.0, which means that it is even easier to use them. You only need to attribute as follows:

CONTENT TITLE (YEAR) by Transparency International is licensed under CC BY 4.0

Please link to the TI content under the above mentioned CONTENT TITLE (YEAR).

As the “NoDerivs” parameter is missing you are allowed to remix and change the content. That said, it does not mean that you can change the content in a way that it becomes untrue. In addition every change you do with our data must be explicitly indicated.

Below you can find a selection of datasets – including the Corruption Perceptions Index – that can be shared and used freely. Anyone can extract, download, and make copies of this data, and may also share that information with third parties. There is no charge for this, and you do not need to ask us for permission – we simply ask that the data is not changed and is attributed to us as “Source: Transparency International”.

Can I use the Transparency International logo in my work?

No, our logo is a protected trademark. Creative Commons licence allows for limited electronic reproduction of documents which may contain our logo, but it does not allow you to copy our logo from our documents or website for your own use.

Can I translate your materials into another language for use in my country?

We deal with translation requests on a case-by-case basis. If you are interested in translating our materials, please contact us at [email protected].

I’ve found a photo on your website/in a publication that I’d like to reproduce – who do I need to contact?

It depends if the image is owned by Transparency International, or a third party. Images owned by Transparency International are covered by Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs 4.0 licence. Third party images may be subject to different types of copyright, and those interested in reproducing them need to contact the image owner directly. If you’re not sure who owns a particular image or how to get in touch with them, please send us an email at [email protected].
