What's at stake?
The ECHO Grant aims to maximise the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of Transparency International, the global civil society umbrella organisation, and more broadly its members – Transparency International National Chapters – to lead and contribute to policy making in the global fight against corruption and the promotion of transparency, accountability and integrity at the national, regional, and global level. This Action will put Transparency International in a stronger position to deliver the goals of the Holding Power to Account — A Global Strategy Against Corruption 2021 - 2030 (Transparency International Strategy 2030) to advance institutional checks and balances against concentration of power, accelerate enforcement of anti-corruption standards for accountability, and activate social oversight to protect the common good.
What we're doing about it
Objective 1: Strengthen the capacities of CSO umbrella organisations for coordinated actions at global and regional levels
Transparency International invests in the core competencies of the Secretariat and leverage the expertise, networks and knowledge of its members to enhance coordinated advocacy action at regional and global levels and expand its representation, visibility, and influence in policy-making processes. To engage more comprehensively and strategically within relevant fora, under this objective Transparency International will a) create spaces for coordinated actions within the Movement, b) bolster Transparency International's representation and participation in relevant fora, and c) enhance digital capacities to strengthen security, information sharing and communication across Transparency International.
Objective 2: Reinforce the capacities of CSO umbrella organisations to effectively represent and be more accountable to their constituencies at global, regional and/or national levels
Under this objective, the work focuses on a) strengthening Transparency International's internal governance and accountability mechanisms that uphold Transparency International's principles and standards, b) creating collaborative and inclusive spaces for strategic planning, exchange, learning and action coordination at Transparency International and across the Movement and c) better measuring and communicating the impact of Movement-wide anti-corruption efforts.
Objective 3: Reinforce the capacities of the members of the umbrella organisations to be actors of good governance in their own right
Under this objective, Transparency International facilitates capacity development initiatives and supports Chapter-led initiatives to strengthen both the Movement's and Chapters' own capacities in a range of areas from advocacy, research, fundraising, project and financial management, digitalisation and engagement with partners and stakeholders, including the EU Delegations. Recognising the diversity of contexts, needs, and capacities that exist across the Movement, capacity development will be tailored based on needs assessments, building on existing expertise across the Movement, to ensure sustainable and meaningful change.
