Transparency International Urges Transparency and Stability Ahead of Honduras Elections

Berlin - Transparency International expresses concern over the political instability in Honduras ahead of the general elections scheduled for November 30. With less than one month remaining before Hondurans elect their government for the 2026–2030 term, we stress the importance of ensuring the integrity of the electoral process and protecting citizens’ right to vote freely and safely.

We reject any attempt to undermine democratic institutions and call on the authorities of electoral bodies, related institutions, and political forces in Honduras to work in a coordinated, law-abiding manner to guarantee democracy, legitimacy and transparent elections. Voting is the foundation of Honduran democracy, grounded in respect for the fundamental rights of citizen participation as established by law, international declarations and treaties.

François Valérian, Chair of Transparency International, said:

“Honduras stands at a pivotal moment for its democracy. Any attempt to manipulate or undermine the electoral process must be firmly rejected. Transparency, accountability and citizen participation are the only paths to restoring and maintaining public trust.”

We support our chapter in Honduras, la Asociación para una Sociedad más Justa (ASJ), in urging citizens to actively participate, monitor, and demand transparency throughout the entire electoral process. Dialogue and consensus must prevail over partisan interests to safeguard the well-being and trust of the Honduran people, while strengthening institutions and the rule of law. Transparency International will remain vigilant before, during and after the elections, in defense of democracy and in support of the citizens of Honduras.
