Media advisory: International Anti-Corruption Conference to be held 6-10 December

The 20th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) will be hosted by the United States government, organised by Transparency International in partnership with Transparency International U.S., in Washington, D.C. from 6 to 10 December 2022.

The IACC is the world’s largest independent forum to fight corruption, with representatives from 140 countries. This year the conference will focus on the theme “Uprooting Corruption, Defending Democratic Values”. As the world faces myriad challenges, workshops and plenary sessions will discuss how corruption fuels threats – and how we can fight it.

Delia Ferreira Rubio, chair of Transparency International said:

“Right now, the international community is struggling to respond to an unprecedented number of global threats – from the pandemic to the aggression of kleptocratic regimes and the growing impact of climate change. Corruption exacerbates each of these challenges and undermines our response. Throughout its history, the IACC has been the place for global leaders to come together and commit to fighting pervasive corruption. This year, it’s more important than ever.”

The conference will feature prominent government leaders and anti-corruption experts from around the world:

  • Akinwumi A. Adesina, African Development Bank president
  • Lysa John Berna, CIVICUS secretary general
  • T. Raja Kumar, Financial Action Task Force (FATF) president
  • Anastasiia Lapatina, Kyiv Independent journalist
  • Isabel Saint Malo, former Panamanian vice president and minister of foreign affairs
  • David Malpass, World Bank president
  • Peter Maurer, International Committee of the Red Cross president
  • Disha Ravi, Fridays for Future India founder
  • Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

Gary Kalman, executive director of Transparency International U.S. said:

“Given current headlines, it's easy to be cynical. But the scope of our challenges also helps to explain the importance of this gathering at this time and place. The IACC offers the promise for progress and a pathway forward. This global forum has long served as a place for discussion, debate and agreement to take meaningful action. We are delighted to host the IACC in the U.S. this year and bring together a remarkably diverse set of leaders and advocates at this critical moment.”

Media accreditation for the IACC is now open. Accredited journalists will have full access to the conference, as well as the press exclusive room and daily briefings, free of charge. Apply here: https://iaccseries.org/20th-iacc/plan-your-trip/press-accreditation/
