Japan
There is little to no enforcement against foreign bribery in Japan. Although the country makes up 3.8 per cent of global exports, it only pursued 1 investigation into foreign bribery, commenced 1 case and concluded 1 case with sanctions between 2016 and 2019.
There is no publicly available data on foreign bribery enforcement in Japan and no central register for information on beneficial ownership of companies and trusts. Japan’s enforcement authorities are insufficiently proactive in the fight against foreign bribery.
