Negligence fuelled by Corruption cause Floods in an Indian City

Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka, a state in southern India known for its tech industry, experienced heavy rainfall, resulting in severe flooding in 2022. 

In addition to climate change, the Washington Post reported that land corruption, enabling the conversion of wetlands and green spaces into real estate development projects, was also at fault. Watchdog groups have alleged that government officials, in collusion with land “mafias”, sanctioned property development on wetlands, bypassing environmental regulations.
