Chinese Firm debarred over Fraudulent Procurement Practices in an Energy Project

The Chinese company, produces and distributes fiber optic cables. In May 2019, the World Bank imposed a sanction on Jiangsu Zhongtian Technology (ZTT) after finding fraudulent practices in acquiring a contract for a transmission and distribution enhancement project implemented by Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (ZESCO) in the capital of Zambia, Lusaka.

According to the World Bank, ZTT misrepresented its past contract experience by submitting falsified documents in its bid for the contract, which is a fraudulent practice.

This sanction lasted for 20 months, during which the company was ineligible to engage in projects funded by the World Bank. As part of the settlement, ZTT agreed to establishing a compliance program focused on integrity and pledged to maintain full cooperation with the World Bank.
