MEDIA ADVISORY: Transparency International asks public to vote out grand corruption from 9 December

To mark International Anti-Corruption Day, Transparency International, the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption, will open the voting phase of its Unmask the Corrupt campaign on Wednesday, 9 December 2015 at 5:00am Berlin time (GMT+1). The campaign highlights the most symbolic cases of grand corruption.

Grand corruption is the abuse of high-level power that benefits the few at the expense of the many, and causes serious and widespread harm to individuals and society. It often goes unpunished. It concerns millions of victims around the world.

Where: www.UnmaskTheCorrupt.org

When: Starting on 9 December 2015 at 5:00am Berlin time (GMT+1) until 9 February 2016

In the previous phase of the campaign, Transparency International received 383 submissions of grand corruption cases from the public. On 9 December, a selection of 15 will be presented to the public. We will ask people to vote on the greatest symbols of grand corruption at www.UnmaskTheCorrupt.org.

In February of next year the focus of this campaign will turn to the most powerful ways to sanction those cases.
