Corruption risks and education: New report launches on 01 October 2013

As students worldwide go back to school, on 1 October 2013 in Budapest, Hungary, Transparency International launches the Global Corruption Report: Education, a comprehensive guide to corruption risks in education – from primary school to university.

The education sector faces the challenge of opening its doors to more people while public funding is not meeting people’s education needs.

The report includes more than 70 articles by experts from more than 50 countries, focusing on:

• the scale of corruption in schools as experienced by parents, teachers and students such as teacher absenteeism or the sale of fake degrees
• the kind of corruption that occurs in higher education, and new trends such as corporate funding of universities
• how people can stop corruption in education
• the role of education in strengthening integrity

The report includes regional articles from Armenia, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Greece, Georgia, Kenya, Morocco, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Vanuatu, Vietnam and the United States.
