Call for applications: Social Entrepreneurs Initiatives Global & MENA

The International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) and Transparency International today announced the launch of two initiatives to support innovative ideas from citizens to boost transparency, accountability and the fight against corruption in their communities: Social Entrepreneurs Initiative Global 2014 and the Social Entrepreneurs Initiative for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The IACC Social Entrepreneurs’ Initiative (SEI) aims to support innovative ideas from all members of society to stop the abuse of power, secret dealings and bribery in their communities, promoting citizen engagement and enabling citizens to take an active role in becoming change makers in their own societies. It is based on the premise that innovative ideas and fresh thinking are necessary if we want to create a world free of corruption.

In March this year the IACC and TI ran a Social Entrepreneurs for West Africa competition, whose theme was “Corruption in Education.” The three winners of this competition are currently creating an SMS reporting system to tackle corruption in schools; building a data visualisation platform to increase education budget transparency; and directing a series of anti-corruption documentaries for school children. More information on other ongoing projects can be found here.
