70 young West African leaders pledge for more integrity

The Secrétariat National à la Gouvernance et au Renforcement des Capacités ( SNGRC ) , the United Nations Development Programme , Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA ) and Transparency International will organise, from 12 to 17 December 2013, the second edition of the Integrity Camp for Francophone youth leaders in Grand-Bassam , Côte d' Ivoire. The theme of this edition is corruption in the education sector.

For five days, 70 young leaders from eight francophone countries of West Africa (Côte d' Ivoire, Benin , Burkina Faso , Guinea , Mali , Niger , Senegal and Togo ) will discuss how best to fight against corrupt practices in their environment .

Participants will be encouraged to share their field experiences and dreams of seeing the continent engage more decisively toward the adoption of reforms and behavior for more accountability, transparency and integrity in the conduct of public affairs. Young leaders come from various sectors: business, politics, public sector, civil society, media , academia, arts, sports and religion . As leaders in their communities , they will be able to share the knowledge and skills acquired during the camp and implement them to foster the conditions for positive change in their countries.

The concept was initiated in 2012 by Transparency International (TI ) with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP ). The first Regional Integrity Camp for Young Leaders was held in December 2012 in Yamoussoukro , Côte d' Ivoire with the participation of forty young leaders from five west African countries .
