Transparency International Cambodia joins the Anti- Corruption Unit (ACU) to raise awareness about corruption on International Anti-Corruption Day
Under its programme ‘Together against Corruption’, Transparency International Cambodia joins the Government’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) in celebrating the United Nations’ International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9. Approximately 2,500 people will attend the event and millions of others will be watching on TV.
The International Anti-Corruption Day celebration hosted by the ACU and supported by Transparency International Cambodia and Pact Cambodia aims to raise awareness about corruption and how it impacts people’s lives while at the same time promoting integrity to the general public. The event is one of the core activities under the partnership between the ACU and Transparency International Cambodia earlier this year to engage with the people of Cambodia and allow them to take part in the fight against corruption.
The event will be hosted at the South East Asia Television (SEATV) station and broadcasted live to Cambodian households nationwide. The audience will listen to songs which will be sung by several famous celebrities, participate in a quiz during the afternoon, and watch an anticorruption poetry award being presented, as well as a Cambodian super model presenting anticorruption messages. The audience will also have the opportunity to engage in educational stories created by students from the Royal University of Fine Arts, comedy presented by the CTN Pekmy Group and much more.
Stimulating debate and education among the 2,500 participants and the Cambodians following this event on national television is part of Transparency International Cambodia’s strategic programme to raise awareness and create public engagement in the fight against corruption.
"’Together against Corruption’ aims for all levels of society to participate and this event marks the beginning of our journey together. Citizens, government officials, civil society, private sector and the media will together make Cambodia a more transparent and accountable country. I believe Cambodia is ready to shed light on the issue of corruption and it is now time to take action together and put corruption under proper check and control”, said Mr Preap Kol, Executive Director of Transparency International Cambodia.
To further strengthen the awareness about anti-corruption, Mr Preap Kol will also participate in a live radio talk show entitled “Building a culture to hate corruption” broadcasted by Voice of Democracy (VOD) from 10am to 11am on FM106.5. People are encouraged to call in and share their thoughts and to participate in a quiz about corruption related topics. Voice of Democracy will host the show from 10am to 11am produced by the Cambodian Center for Independent Media.
Transparency International is represented in more than 100 countries worldwide and hosts a number of events on International Anti-Corruption Day. The International Anti-Corruption Day was first introduced by the UN since the passage of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption on 31 October 2003.
