The issue: Climate finance is a growing envelope of public money – aimed at halting adverse climate change and building resilience to its effects. By 2020 international climate finance is expected to be worth US$100 billion annually. Beyond this, large sums will be spent domestically on forging the transition to a greener economy. Transparency International is working to ensure that the necessary safeguards are in place to make sure that climate money gets to where it is needed and achieves results.

The Series: Hosted by Transparency International, the Berlin Climate Finance Integrity Talks will bring together experts and practitioners to openly discuss best practices for governance in climate finance decision-making, spending, reporting, monitoring and oversight.  The Talks aim to develop sound solutions and craft clear recommendations on how to minimize risks of corruption and fraud at global and national levels. Ensuing Talks will deal with specific issues related to enabling climate financed project monitoring, grievance mechanisms, private sector accountability and monitoring, reporting and verification systems.  The full programme for the Berlin Climate Finance Integrity Talks can be downloaded here.

The Launch event: At this launch event, discussions will focus on the accountability of climate finance institutions and processes.  As a part of the Climate Finance Integrity Programme, TI is conducting policy-level governance assessments of international and national climate finance. The research has reviewed the transparency, accountability and integrity of climate funds with a specific focus on anti-corruption. Expert panellists will join in discussing these findings and sharing their views on how accountability can be further strengthened through civil society, public and private sector actions in the growing climate sector.
