Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. In collaboration with more than 100 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
Sitting in the External Stakeholders Engagement team, the position will work closely with management in institutional priority setting, planning and conceiving resourcing strategies. The ESE team’s mission is to lead on global communications and securing funding for TI, working with colleagues at the TI Secretariat and in the wider movement. ESE is at the centre of an organisation with lean hierarchies that embraces team work, and the team has strong relationships across the Secretariat, in the movement, and with other international partner organisations.
Within this key role in the international Secretariat, the incumbent will drive fundraising internationally, lead on the development and implementation of TI’s fundraising strategies and approaches towards all donor segments. S/he will ensure strategic oversight and quality control while leading on his/ her own donor portfolio (e.g. core donors) and proposal types (e.g. consortia), identifying new funding sources, products and markets. The post holder will set standards and with the fundraising team, develop and implement a global fundraising strategy that will raise TI´s profile, enter new markets and attract additional funding partners. S/he will promote a high performance culture, encourage continuous improvement and support collaborative working. The successful candidate will continue the maintenance of and build new key relationships to deliver institutional and other funding growth.
- Drive international fundraising towards diversified and sustainable portfolio, setting and attain clear targets together with the fundraising team;
- Lead on the development of overall TI fundraising strategy and its implementation;
- Lead on and manage the relations and communication with core and specified institutional donors on behalf of the Secretariat and the wider movement (donor stewardship) and ensure a movement-wide coherent approaches;
- Develop responses and action plans for reputational challenges and crises (including donor relations), and coordinate the external responses;
- In consultation with ESE and other relevant teams, ensure decisions are made on fundraising priorities with respect to the TI strategy and the different opportunities available;
- Facilitate internal consultation processes to ensure the Secretariat fundraises for its priorities and with the most promising products (projects, programmes, other deliverables);
- Manage core and select institutional grant reporting process to ensure reporting requirements, grant deliverables, and project milestones are met and communicated with funders in a timely manner;
- Advise and assist TI colleagues in interpreting donor strategies, priorities and requirements, and translating these into strong project design and proposal development;
- Develop fundraising training materials and provide regular and ad hoc fundraising support and training to the Secretariat colleagues and TI national chapters on specific donor opportunities and donor stewardship;
- Support the exchange of learning and expertise within a community of fundraising practice across the Secretariat and the movement;
- Coordinating with the team, prepare reports to management and to the board as needed.
Essential experience, knowledge and skills
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in resource development, at least 5 years at senior level.
- Experience of developing and implementing long-term fundraising strategies.
- Demonstrated track record of significant fundraising success, ideally in diversified markets.
- Proven ability to write compelling, creative, succinct and clear proposals and reports is essential.
- Demonstrated excellence in written communication and editing in the English language – ability to write and edit compelling, succinct and clear proposals and reports is essential.
- Knowledge of, or considerable interest in the work of TI and the fields of governance and anti-corruption.
- Demonstrated experience in knowledge sharing and learning approaches and capacity development.
- Strong strategic leadership and organisation skills.
- Extensive social and intercultural skills.
- Willingness to travel.
Education and qualifications
- Graduate university degree in marketing, business administration, international relations, or other relevant fields.
- Excellent computer and IT skills, including the use of standard MS software packages (SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Experience in using fundraising databases is desirable.
- Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of other languages such as Spanish, French, German, and Arabic are an advantage.
