Media Advisory: Report on ‘Golden Visas’ corruption risks to EU published 10 October

Issued by Transparency International Secretariat

Citizenship- and residency-by investment programmes offered by some EU Member States have repeatedly sparked controversy. Applicants and grantees associated with dubious sources of wealth have made headlines in various countries, and the opacity which characterises many of the schemes has raised concerns over risks of money-laundering and the security of the EU and its Member States.

Transparency International and Global Witness have teamed up to investigate these schemes and the corruption risks they pose to the entire EU. The new joint report discusses the problems with this multi-billion Euro industry and suggests solutions.
