# Regional Assessment of Integrity in Political Finance in South Asia, Southeast Asia and East Asia URL: https://www.transparency.org/en/publications/integrity-political-finance-asia Type: Publication or report Published: 2026-09-03 Updated: 2026-09-25 --- 03 September 2026 Money is essential to politics. However, if it flows in opaque, illicit, unconstrained, imbalanced or unaccountable ways, or is prone to incumbency abuse, money can jeopardise the integrity of elections and public decision making. This report reviews the integrity of political finance systems across 17 countries in South Asia, Southeast Asia and East Asia: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Thailand. The report is centred on the six principles Transparency International advocates to improve integrity in political finance: transparency, clean money, a level playing field, gender equality, state neutrality and accountability. The goal of the review is to identify the areas of political finance most in need of reform in each country, according to these principles. ### Related publications ## [Ending Debt Secrecy: Recommendations to the G20 on Anti-Corruption in Sovereign Borrowing and Lending](https://www.transparency.org/en/publications/ending-debt-secrecy-g20-recommendations) Publication • 04 September 2026 Recommendations to the G20 to strengthen transparency, accountability and integrity in sovereign borrowing and lending ## [Monitoring political finance: Compendium of citizen initiatives and good practices](https://www.transparency.org/en/publications/monitoring-political-finance-compendium-of-citizen-initiatives-and-good-practices) Publication • 18 August 2026 This compendium aims to provide ideas for stakeholders interested in monitoring political finance.
