Independent REDD+ Governance Monitoring: A Guidance Document for Civil Society Organisations

Good governance is vital for achieving effective, efficient and fair REDD+ outcomes, and civil society organisations (CSOs) are in a strong position to monitor REDD+ governance processes, checking that countries are sharing accurate information about their conservation and are really complying with social and environmental safeguards. This holds governments to account, increasing accountability and transparency in REDD+ implementation so that forests are conserved and the right people benefit.

This guidance document is an overview of key steps and considerations for the design and implementation of effective independent REDD+ governance monitoring systems. It draws on a growing body of experiences and case studies undertaken by CSOs within and outside the Transparency International movement, and across different tropical forest countries.
