# Getting Political Finance Right: Preventing corruption with UNCAC CoSP Resolution 11/7 URL: https://www.transparency.org/en/publications/getting-political-finance-right Type: Publication or report Published: 2026-05-15 Updated: 2026-07-08 --- 15 May 2026 Resolution 11/7, adopted by the Conference of the States Parties (CoSP) to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), is the world’s furthest-reaching consensus to prevent and combat corruption enabled by money in elections and politics. Political finance is one of the weakest areas of election integrity worldwide. When it is opaque, wealthy and well-connected interests can wield undue influence over legislation and public resources, while weak controls can leave the state vulnerable to abuse by incumbents seeking to entrench their power. Adopted by consensus in December 2025, Resolution 11/7 sets out 22 commitments covering transparency, clean money safeguards, state neutrality, oversight and accountability. But its impact depends on legislators, election and anti-corruption officials, judges and election observers effectively using them as the standard to make money play a positive role in politics. This publication is the collaborative effort of over 20 experts from all regions to explain the commitments set forth in Resolution 11/7, highlighting good practice examples to show implementation can look like in countries working to strengthen their political finance systems. ### Related publications ## [Protecting civic space in extractives governance: Towards enhanced EITI engagement on civic space](https://www.transparency.org/en/publications/protecting-civic-space-in-extractives-governance) Publication • 05 October 2026 This brief evaluates the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative's (EITI) existing approach to addressing civic space challenges arising in EITI implementing countries and… ## [Ending Debt Secrecy: Recommendations to the G20 on Anti-Corruption in Sovereign Borrowing and Lending](https://www.transparency.org/en/publications/ending-debt-secrecy-g20-recommendations) Publication • 04 September 2026 Recommendations to the G20 to strengthen transparency, accountability and integrity in sovereign borrowing and lending ## [High Integrity Talks: How COP31 Presidency can set a new standard for climate leadership](https://www.transparency.org/en/publications/high-integrity-talks) Publication • 11 May 2026 How COP31 Presidency can set a new standard for climate leadership ## [Clean contracting for sustainable development](https://www.transparency.org/en/publications/sustainable-development-public-procurement-and-corruption) Publication • 24 July 2025 Corruption in public procurement harms services and slows progress.
