# Climate Adaptation Finance Governance Standards: a New Approach Piloted in the Maldives and Bangladesh URL: https://www.transparency.org/en/publications/climate-adaptation-finance-governance-standards Type: Publication or report Published: 2018-09-04 Updated: 2020-04-02 --- 04 September 2018 Climate finance – money intended to help at-risk countries prevent climate change and adapt to its effects – can be vulnerable to corruption. Without strong governance standards, climate finance can be diverted from vital prevention and adaptation activities into private bank accounts and vanity projects, often leading to catastrophic effects for countries already suffering. This report presents a new framework to create and assess governance standards for climate finance. It is for climate adaptation stakeholders worldwide from the public and private sector, international agencies, and civil society who want to ensure that climate finance going into countries where they are working meets the needs of climate-vulnerable communities. ### Related publications ## [Monitoring political finance: Compendium of citizen initiatives and good practices](https://www.transparency.org/en/publications/monitoring-political-finance-compendium-of-citizen-initiatives-and-good-practices) Publication • 18 August 2026 This compendium aims to provide ideas for stakeholders interested in monitoring political finance.
