France

Moderate Enforcement level
24 Investigations opened

France moderately enforces against companies bribing abroad. France accounts for 3.5 per cent of global exports and opened 24 investigations and 7 cases between 2016 to 2019. The country also closed 9 cases with sanctions during the same period.

France is one of six countries that improved in enforcement since our last report.

However, the glaring lack of resources devoted to the fight against economic and financial crime in France is regularly criticized, and concerns over the lack of independence of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, reinforced by several political and financial scandals, raise suspicions of political interference in many court cases.
