The National Integrity System assessment approach provides a framework to analyse the robustness and effectiveness of a country’s institutions in preventing and fighting corruption.Overall the Romanian National Integrity System is assessed as ‘average’. Joining the European Union helped to strengthen the integrity system, but the economic crisis that has affected resources and the independence of the institutions has increased vulnerabilities at all levels.
