Advocating for strong anti-corruption policies in the European Union
The overall objective of the Brussels office is to promote anti-corruption policies at EU level in relevant public sectors.
The Brussels office liaises with European Union institutions to promote the fight against corruption. Its main activities are to advocate for improvement in policy, legislation and programmes. All activities are embedded in Transparency International's global priorities and the related thematic issues.
In particular, Transparency International Brussels Office aims at promoting:
- the establishment of an anti-corruption monitoring system in EU accession candidate and potential candidate countries
- the transparent management of internal EU spending (i.e. structural Funds, agricultural Funds and research spending)
- Transparency in external EU spending
- Transparent lobbying rules at EU level
- Transparent procurement rules (for the management of EU funds and for funding of the internal market)
- the development of an EU-wide debarment system (applied to EU funds and later beyond)
- Fight against corruption through EU’s judicial/police cooperation
- the European Prosecutor
- Whistleblowing
- Corruption-free export credit insurance
- the implementation of international Anti-Corruption Conventions
- Access to public information
