TI and the OAS Follow-up Mechanism
After two years of expert meetings organised by TI to propose a monitoring mechanism to the IACAC (see recommendations, only in Spanish), many of civil society's recommendations were adopted and the Follow-up Mechanism, as it is known today, was approved in 2001.
II Round
The Second Round started in 2006. Civil Society Organisation from 10 of the countries reviewed have alreay sent their independent report to the OAS. 5 of those countries have as well presented their findings at the Comittee of Experts meeting in which their countries were being examined.

I Round
During the First Round of the OAS Follow-up Mechanism civil society organizations from 17 countries have participated submitting independent reports regarding the compliance of their governments with the IACAC in the topics examined in the First Round and by presenting their observations and conclusions during informal sessions with the OAS Committee of Experts.

Since the creation of the Follow-up Mechanism, Transparency International has made recommendations to assure its effectiveness. Among other things, TI champions a more transparent Mechanism and the formal participation of civil society in the process.
