Civil society in the Americas plays an active role in supporting and monitoring the OAS convention
Since the adoption of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption (IACAC) in 1996, civil society organisations from throughout the hemisphere have worked to have it quickly signed, ratified, and implemented. These organisations have called for the creation of a follow-up mechanism to the Convention by the OAS Member States to ensure the complete and adequate implementation of the agreement in each country. Transparency International (TI) has been at the forefront of this lobbying effort on both the national and international level, working together with its national chapters and the support of other organisations.
