capacity building

One of the priorities of TI in the Africa and Middle East region has been providing the relevant skills and tools to TI National Chapters and National Contacts in the region in order to enhance and reinforce their capabilities. Of specific importance are strengthening of general NGO-skills such as strategic planning, communication with the media, technical assistance, as well as strengthening networks of anti-corruption organizations and activists.

One of the strategies being used to build capacity is to encourage collaboration between TI chapters and regional institutions on a number of activities and programs. This has notably included the African Union, the African Development Bank and the African Parliamentary Network Against Corruption. The goal of capacity building is further being supported through the implantation of a number of programmes and events, for example the Francophone Africa Capacity Building (FACB) programme, a European Commission-financed capacity-building programme for the Middle East entitled ‘Equipping the Civil Society to Combat Corruption in the Arab World,’ and the G8 BMENA Civil Society Dialogue. More on each of these programmes can be found on our projects and activities page.
