2008 Report on Revenue Transparency of Oil and Gas Companies

TI has been contacting the companies covered in the report (see above) and addressing their CEOs to provide background information about the project and invite them to participate in the following ways:

  1. During the method review/design. The International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (OGP), the American Petroleum Institute (API) and the International Council of Mining and Minerals (ICMM) have been invited to participate in the project’s Working Group. Before the data collection phase started in April 2007 TI invited all companies covered in the report to participate in meetings to gather input on the companies report framework. In this context a meeting took place in London on March 16, 2007. To read the notes of the meeting click here.
  2. During the data gathering and validation. Consultants performing the data gathering organised meetings with each company to review the process and results, as well as to obtain feedback. In August 2007, as part of the data-checking process, each of the companies covered in the report received their individual results for review. Many companies have responded positively and, following discussions, corrections have been made when necessary.
  3. During and after the data analysis. Industry associations and industry representatives participating in the Working Group have been able to give input and feedback into the final report. In addition, after publication the Project will be available to support companies’ activities and workshops to discuss the findings and design further plans of action.

Research and Engagement Process

Participatory engagement is one of the most essential elements of the Promoting Revenue Transparency approach and methodology. Engaging and consulting stakeholders is crucial to the production of the reports and advocacy efforts they entail. The diagram below shows the engagement and research process undertaken as part of the Companies Report.
