  anti-corruption handbook

country strategies and policies

This section combines information about developments in three areas of country strategies and policies: government anti-corruption strategies, access to information initiatives and anticorruption education.

The government anti-corruption strategies page outlines anti-corruption strategies (ACS)- the strategic action plans developed and implemented by governments to organize their anti-corruption efforts over given periods of time. Although countries' varied experiences with ACS prevents a general discussion, on this page TI does successfully capture and analyse some common trends and approaches.

The access to information page provides information on the national practices of countries related to the policies, practices, laws and procedures that help guarantee openness in the conduct of public affairs. It elaborates on the question of how much access to internally held information outsiders are entitled to, and what outsiders can do if insiders are not sufficiently forthcoming in providing such access.

The anti-corruption education page highlights the following aims of anti-corruption education: increasing resistance to corruption by promoting ethical values, expectations and attitudes, and by developing public understanding of our common responsibility to hold those in positions of power to account.

Each section has been further divided, first providing an in-depth discussion of the issue-area, challenges surrounding each specific anti-corruption initiative and a list of key recommendations. Another section provides guidelines to the successful design and implementation of the strategies, policies or programs in question. Other sections include examples of good practice, as well as a list of recommended readings with short, detailed descriptions of each resource, and finally a section detailing TI activities in this area.
