  anti-corruption handbook

the political system

The political system webpage focuses on the flows of money in and out of politics, currently describing both the corruption-related challenges facing political party and campaign financing and the related anti-corruption initiatives in this field. This section looks first at political finance regulations, which require detailed accounting of revenues and expenditure by parties and/or candidates. These accounts should be rendered to an oversight body with the resources, independence and capacity to analyse the accounts, investigate irregularities and instigate judicial proceedings in the case of breaches of campaign funding laws. The section then turns to the issue of public funding, addressing the issues of to whom and how much funding should be distributed. Finally, this second section addresses methods for strengthening internal party controls.

The political party and campaign financing page is divided into sub-sections providing an in-depth introduction and discussion, implementation guidelines, examples of good practice, a list of recommended readings with short, detailed descriptions of each resource, and finally a section detailing TI activities in this area.

This site will be updated to include another section on multilateral and bilateral donors.
