Research on SAIs and Corruption at National Level, TI Brazil

Transparency International's National Chapter in Brazil has engaged in developing new research on the role of SAIs in the fight against corruption. Their work includes research on the role and performance of SAIs in Brazil, public procurement and the Court of Audit in Brazil, and an article in the Brazilian adaptation of the TI Source Book. Further initiatives have included an evaluation for the UK Department for International Development on regional SAIs in north-eastern Brazil.

Workshops on the Role of Supreme Audit Institutions in the Fight against Corruption (1999, 2001 and 2003)

Within the framework of the International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC), Transparency International has organised three workshops on fiscal transparency and the role of SAIs in the fight against corruption. The 1999 workshop at the 9th IACC in Durban was one of the first attempts to focus on this topic at international level. Subsequent workshops were held at the 10th IACC in Prague (2001) and the 11th IACC in Seoul (2003). A set of recommendations with regard to the role of SAIs in fighting corruption were issued at the first workshop. These recommendations concluded that SAIs should take both a reactive and proactive approach in their fight against corruption, with the former aimed at investigation of corruption and fraud, and the latter on prevention, awareness-raising and the promotion of sound public financial management.
