German Ambassador visits Transparency International BiH

Banja Luka, 23 August 2006

In his capacity as the member of the global Board of Directors of Transparency International, Mr Divjak has expressed deep gratitude to the Government of FR Germany for the generous support it has provided to Transparency International

The newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bosnia and Herzegovina, His Excellency Michael Georg Schmunk, has visited the headquarters of Transparency International BiH (TI BiH) in Banja Luka earlier today.

In his conversation with Mr Boris Divjak, Chairman of the TI BiH Board of Directors and member of the global TI Board of Directors, His Excellency Mr Georg Schmunk had the opportunity to acquaint himself with the TI BiH’s work and the results of its 6-year-long anti-corruption combat in BiH as well as with the current state of corruption in BiH as identified in TI’s findings and analyses.

His Excellency Mr Schmunk expressed particular interest in the TI BiH’s project supported by the German Government, among which is the Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre (ALAC project) – one of the most successful TI’s projects that are implemented in SE Europe and Central Asia. Mr Divjak and His Excellency Mr Schmunk agreed that there was a need for greater participation of citizens and civic initiatives in the decision-making processes at all levels as well as for the simultaneous strengthening of governments’ responsiveness to citizens’ demands and needs.

In his capacity as the member of the global TI Board of Directors, Mr Divjak expressed deep gratitude to the Government of FR Germany for the generous support it has provided to Transparency International. He also underlined the enormous contribution of the German Government to anti-corruption projects in BiH and the region, and said that he expected the successful cooperation to continue in future.
