Berlin, 04 May 2006

Transparency International
invites you to a presentation on corruption and health

Wednesday, 10 May 2006
10:00 – 11:00
World Council of Churches
Salle IV
150 Route de Ferney, 1218 Geneva

Speakers:

  1. Dr Huguette Labelle, Chair, Transparency International
  2. Dr Hans Hogerzeil, Director, Medicines Policy and Standards, WHO

Dr Labelle will present the findings of Transparency International’s Global Corruption Report 2006, with its special focus on the detrimental effect of corruption on health care around the world. The Report recommends ways to prevent huge losses to embezzlement, corruption in the purchase of medicines and equipment, and payment fraud. It analyses how massive marketing campaigns by pharmaceutical companies can distort decisions that affect the quality of care, and questions the approach of the international community to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

For journalists: The presentation is open to the media. For interviews or other information, please contact Sarah Tyler at +49 3034382019 or styler@transparency.org
