Transparency International launches Integrity Awards
A signal to encourage those who have made the fight against corruption their mission
Transparency International [TI], the global non-profit organisation devoted to curbing corruption, wishes to recognise the efforts of individuals and organisations, which have made tangible contributions to promoting the cause of transparency and good governance.
TI is now launching a general call for nominations for consideration by the members of the Integrity Awards Committee. It is expected that the first group of awards recipients will be honoured at TI's next Annual General Meeting to be held next September in Ottawa, Canada.
The newly instituted yearly awards will seek to reward those who have undertaken innovative or courageous actions that have a significant impact on existing levels of corruption in a given country or region, and are likely to attract interest or lead to emulation in other parts of the world.
"In many countries the fight against corruption is waged at very high personal risk. We want to acknowledge the courage of those who carry on in spite of difficult circumstances as well as the determination of those deserving individuals and organisations who make it their mission to counter corruption," explained Peter Eigen, Chairman of Transparency International.
Information on eligibility and nomination requirements is available on the TI web site at www.transparency.org/activities/awareness/i_awards.html
Individuals or organisations wishing to submit one or several nominations can do so before May 30th. Nominations should be sent to the TI Integrity Awards Committee Secretariat by post, fax or email to the following address:
