World’s largest anti-corruption conference to be held in Brasilia, 7-10 November

The biennial International Anti-Corruption Conference, now in its 15^th edition, will take place from 7 -10 November in Brasilia. Leading experts from across a wide array of disciplines connected to the fight against corruption will discuss in over 50 workshop and plenary sessions how to best take the fight against corruption forward in five key areas: ending impunity, clean climate governance, preventing illicit financial flows, political transitions leading to stable and transparent governments and clean sports. The four-day event will be opened by the President of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff.

The topics are particularly timely both in the international arena with a former President of a G-8 country recently convicted of tax fraud and as frustration grows across the Middle East that new leadership has not meant renewed efforts to stop corruption. In Brazil, the timing is auspicious as the conference coincides with the Mensalao case and comes ahead of the upcoming World Cup and Olympics. The 15^th Anti-Corruption Conference will provide space for debate and discussions around solutions aiming at taking the fight against corruption to the next level. An emphasis of the conference will also be the exploration of how journalists and anti-corruption activists can work together to achieve this goal.

In addition to President Dilma Rousseff, other high-level representatives of Brazil will include Minister Jorge Hage Sobrinho, Comptroller General, Izabella Teixeira, Minister for the Environment, José Eduardo Cardoso, Minister of Justice, as well as Carlos Ayres Britto, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

A declaration will be published at the end of the conference summarising key points of action essential for progress in the global fight against corruption.

Winners of three competitions of investigative journalists, social entrepreneurs and hackers will also be announced during the conference.
