MEDIA ADVISORY: OAS General Assembly: anti-corruption needed to safeguard citizens

Transparency International hosts discussion 3 June

Transparency International (TI), the anti-corruption organisation will present a series of vital recommendations ahead of the Organization of American States (OAS) 41st General Assembly to be held in San Salvador from 5-7 June.

Despite consistently identifying corruption as a fundamental problem jeopardising security and development in the region, concrete action by OAS member states remains insufficient. The Inter-American Convention against Corruption has existed since 1996 and 15 years on, many of the OAS recommendations are yet to be implemented.

Civil society experts from Latin America will discuss how transparency can be an effective tool to enhance citizen security on 3 June at an event organised by TI and its affiliate in El Salvador, La Fundacion Nacional para el Desarrollo (FUNDE):
