MEDIA ADVISORY: Transparency International launches 2011 progress report on OECD Anti-Bribery Convention on May 24

Transparency International (TI), the global organisation leading the fight against corruption, will launch its annual progress report on the implementation of the OECD Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials on 24 May 2011.

The launch coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the OECD in Paris.

TI monitors the implementation of the Convention by measuring how many cases member countries are investigating and taking to trial. It also presents recommendations to improve the enforcement of the Convention. Since its entry into force in 1999, the anti-bribery convention has been adopted by 38 countries representing 65 per cent of world exports.

The Convention aims to tackle the supply side of bribery, which the World Bank estimates at a scale of US$ 1 trillion a year, by ensuring companies and individuals who pay bribes are investigated and prosecuted.

TI Chair Huguette Labelle will be in Paris on 24-26 May for the OECD 50th Anniversary Forum.
