Europe and Central Asia

The Europe and Central Asia region stretches from Ireland in the west to Mongolia in the east and is characterised by a wide range of histories and cultures and varying stages of social, economic and political development.

To better manage work in this region, Transparency International (TI) has divided it into three sub-regions reflecting similarities in experiences, priorities and approaches to anti-corruption work. The three sub-regions are:

  • European Union member states, European Economic Area countries and the EU Liaison Office in Brussels (EU)
  • South-Eastern Europe (SEE)
  • Commonwealth of Independent States and Mongolia (CIS)

In 2007, Transparency International has 30 national chapters (NCs), seven national chapters in formation, one national contact group and one ocal partner organisation in the Europe and Central Asian region. This makes it the largest region in the TI movement in terms of national chapter representation. For a full list of countries where TI is present, please see the ECA Contacts page.

Transparency International has identified three priority issues for work in Europe and Central Asia:

Read more about these initiatives on the priority issues page.

In addition to information on priority issues for the region, the Europe and Central Asia webpages provide information about previous and on-going projects and activities in the region, contact information for the regional department at the TI Secretariat in Berlin and the regional network of chapters operating at the national level. Finally the news room section provides the latest press releases and bulletins from the region.
