African Union Convention

The African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption entered into force in Mozambique, in July 2003. By adopting a convention that provides a regional framework and a transnational process for cooperation and monitoring, the African Union has opted to fight the evil of corruption.

Transparency International has prepared a plain language handbook, explaining this important convention, intended to inform and encourage, assisting the African citizenship in its fight against corruption.

On access to information, the AU Convention says:

AU Convention, Article 9: Access to Information.

Each State Party shall adopt such legislative and other measures to give effect to the right of access to any information that is required to assist in the fight against corruption and related offences.
