Programme Financial Coordinator

The TI Secretariat in Berlin is seeking a highly motivated professional for its Finance Department for the position of Programme Financial Coordinator.

Transparency International (TI) is the leading global non-governmental and not-for-profit organisation devoted to combating corruption. Its mission is to create change towards a world free of corruption. TI currently has more than 90 National Chapters across the world, and its International Secretariat is based in Berlin, Germany.

TI does not investigate or expose individual cases of corruption but advocates for reform by focusing on systemic improvement and by building coalitions with other anti-corruption stakeholders, including governments, the private sector and civil society organisations.

This is a new position. It has been created to provide accounting support for the management and implementation of major, new, donor-funded programmes which cover activities in several TI National Chapters around the world. The position would support the activities of both the Programme Manager and the Senior Accountant, and liaise closely with the Regional Departments who are coordinating programme activities at the regional level.

Job Description

Main function: Provide support to the regional and other departments in the areas of relevant programme accounting

Reporting lines: Reports to Chief Accountant, directed by Senior Project Accountant
Contract: for 24 months; with option for extension
Starting date: as soon as possible
Location: Berlin, Germany

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide technical accounting and financial support to managers and coordinators in their work on programme budget proposals, financial management and reporting to donors
  • Entering of transactions related to certain programmes into the financial accounting system
  • Internal and external control related to these programmes
  • Overseeing of the programme related bank accounts and preparation of bank transfers
  • Provide monthly / quarterly accountings and reports to programme managers and coordinators
  • Review of project proposal budgets
  • Review of financial reports
  • Preparation of project audits
  • Standardisation of financial reporting (taking specific donor requirements into account)
  • Development of financial reporting templates, including for TI national chapters
  • Support of year end work

Knowledge, experience and skills:

  • Education/study as Certified Accountant/ Controller, or relevant degree
  • Practical experience with project management, monitoring and accounting preferably in international organisations
  • Practical experience with and knowledge of German Commercial Law
  • At least 5 years of professional experience
  • Excellent oral and written skills in both German and English
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel, or an equivalent product necessary
  • Excellent knowledge of SAGE Office Line would be an advantage
  • Creativity, ability to work independently and in a team
  • Ability to work against tight deadlines and under stress
  • Good personal communication skills, especially explaining accounting and financial matters to non-financial staff
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Solid understanding of programme contracts; ability to handle sensitive issues with diplomacy and otherwise to cultivate productive relationships
