Internship in the Press Department, Communications Department, Transparency International Secretariat
The Press Department of Transparency International internship programme offers an internship every three months. Please see the bottom of this page for application deadlines and starting dates.
Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. TI currently has about 100 National Chapters around the world, and is headquartered in Berlin, Germany.
TI fights corruption by focusing on systemic improvement and by building coalitions with other anti-corruption stakeholders, including governments, the private sector and civil society organisations.
Description of Internship
Main function: Supporting the Press Department
Duration: Three months, with possibility of extension; full time Mon - Fri

Location: Berlin, Germany
Responsibilities:
- General assistance to the press unit and the Communications Department
- Managing the Communications Department's media contacts database
- Daily news monitoring
- Research topics relevant to the Department
- Involvement in communications outreach efforts
Requirements:
- Strong communication and writing skills
- Multitasking and good time management skills
- Communications, journalism or social science related degree
- Experience using the internet as a communications tool
- Experience performing internet research
- Computer software skills including Excel and Outlook
- Fluency in English written and spoken; skills in other languages are highly desirable
*Fluency in Spanish will be strongly preferred.

Interns must obtain their own health insurance before starting the internship, and must submit a tax card for 2008. Students of the German universities should submit documents verifying their student status.

Internship in the Public Contracting Programme
Transparency International (TI) is the leading global non-governmental and not-for-profit organisation devoted to combating corruption. Its mission is to create change towards a world free of corruption. TI currently has more than 90 national chapters across the world and its international secretariat is in Berlin, Germany.
TI does not investigate or expose individual cases of corruption but advocates for reform by focusing on systemic improvement and by building coalitions with other anti-corruption stakeholders, including governments, the private sector and civil society organisations.
Main function: Assisting the different activities of the Public Contracting Global Programme
Starting Date: August 1, 2008
Duration: Three months, full time, Monday-Friday

Location: Berlin, Germany
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist in the research and documentation of best practices on civil society monitoring of the implementation of public sector projects, in order to create a compilation of best practice for the movement
- Gather information on the implementation of the Integrity Pacts by national chapters and document the similarities and differences in the methodologies applied
- Upload the information on public contracting into the new chapter activity database software and coordinate with chapters to motivate them to update the required information
- Update of the Public Contracting Programme information on the Website and coordinate with the regional departments the update of the public contracting information on the regional WebPages
- Support the organisation of a Workshop on Public Contracting issues within the forthcoming International Anti-Corruption Conference
- Assist in the review of the content of the Handbook on Curbing Corruption in Public Procurement, and coordinate its translation and printing
- Assisting with the preparation of other Public Contracting Programme’s documents.
- Assist in research, documentation, record-keeping, administrative and logistical tasks related to the Programme
Knowledge, experience and skills required:
- Knowledge of public contracting, Public Financial Management and/or associated issues
- Research experience an advantage
- Strong English communication and writing skills
- Spanish knowledge desirable
- Solid computer skills (e-mail, MS Word and MS Excel)
- Website editing experience an advantage
- Experience in conference organising as an advantage
