Climate Management
This has caused poor governance resulting into poor performance of the institutions on interactions with stakeholders.
Ultimately instances of embezzlement, double counting of carbon units, and in forestry; forest crime (such as illegal logging, arson, poaching, or encroachment) are a problem in many areas. In Kenya, corruption in the forest/natural resource sector and rent seeking has caused forest/mining/natural resource agencies to lose both revenue and credibility.
We seek to make user friendly forest and natural resource management inventories and a natural resource management system that is robust. We plan to create applications using mobile phones and the Internet that can be deployed quickly with minimal technological support, in order to develop tools to help prevent, detect and suppress corruption in these areas:
- Tailored advocacy campaigns through text messaging and Internet social networking sites
- Crowdsourcing—mapping for the people, by the people
- Collaborative and participatory mapping
- Real-time corruption alerts
- Forest cover and carbon stock assessment tool (CDM projects)
- Climate finance tracking through bar codes,GPS
- Easy and hard to bribe detectors
- Loot easy to get application to serve as teasers…that can easily go undetected
- Owner/manager unaware of inventory and value (for organisations)
- Corruption databases/ case management systems
