Internship - Transparency International Liaison Office to the EU (Brussels, Belgium)
Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 90 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
The TI Liaison Office to the EU is part of the international secretariat of TI and works in close cooperation with the entire global movement, in particular with the 22 National Chapters in the EU and the eight National Chapters and contact groups in the EU candidate and potential candidate countries. On behalf of the TI movement, the TI Liaison Office to the EU advocates for the prevention of and fight against corruption at the EU level, in EU member states and beyond.
Description of Internship:
Starting date: ASAP for 6 months
Location: TI Liaison Office to the EU, Brussels, Belgium
Reporting lines: under supervision of Head of TI’s Liaison Office to the EU, reporting to Director Europe and Central Asia
Key responsibilities:
1. Policy and advocacy
- Contribute to TI’s advocacy work at the EU level, in particular related the prevention of corruption and promotion of integrity in the EU private sector (e.g. corporate social responsibility, economic recovery), in the Enlargement policy and integrity inside the EU institutions.
2. EU policy monitoring, research and analysis
- Monitor anti-corruption developments and trends at EU level and disseminate information across the global TI movement
- Coordinate and contribute to the drafting of the internal TI EU newsletter
- Research, assess and analyse anti-corruption-relevant information, in particular EU trends, stakeholder, surveys and statistics
- Contribute to content and maintenance of TI Brussels Office website
3. Project management and fundraising
- Contribute to the management and implementation of internationally-funded anti-corruption projects, including multi-country financial project management
- Monitor and identify fundraising opportunities for TI movement
4. Liaison between TI and the EU
- Network, establish and maintain contacts with relevant stakeholder at the EU level
- Provide EU expertise to facilitate TI's work at the EU level
- Facilitate visits of members of TI (Secretariat and National Chapters) to Brussels
5. Administration
- Contribute to the administration of TI’s Liaison Office to the EU
Knowledge, experience and skills:
- Study or degree in business, economics, accounting/finance, European law or European politics;
- Excellent knowledge of EU’s policies, legislation, institutions and procedures, in particular related to the private sector, enlargement and the functioning of the EU institutions;
- Demonstrated working experience at EU level, preferably within an EU institution, in the private sector (e.g. company, bank), in an EU consultancy, in the Brussels-based civil society or think tank would be an asset;
- Experience in EU advocacy work and/or project management, esp. financial project management would be an asset;
- Strong analytical and organizational skills and practical approach to problem solving;
- Solid computer skills, especially on web site management;
- Excellent communication, networking and writing skills;
- Ability to work in a small team in a multi-cultural working environment;
- Native level of fluency in English, working knowledge of French and knowledge of a third major EU language would be an advantage.

The WIN-S, the Water Integrity Network Secretariat, situated in Berlin, is seeking a highly motivated intern.
The Water Integrity Network (WIN) is an action oriented coalition of individuals and organizations that are able and willing to support the cause of increasing Water Integrity benefiting poor people in helping to prevent or reduce corruption in four water sub-sectors, namely; IWRM, drinking water and sanitation, water for food and water for energy.
The overall objectives of WIN are (1) Promoting pro-poor Water Integrity practice to prevent and/or reduce corruption in the water sector, and (2) Building coalitions at local, regional and global levels to jointly improve Water Integrity (WI).
The network brings together water sector and governance actors, particularly among the CSO constituencies who in the future will play a key catalytic role, not only with improving the corruption-fighting performance of public sector institutions in the water sector but also help to stimulate incorporation of anti-corruption measures in arrangements with communities and the private sector.
The overall approach of WIN comprises five main components:
- Advocacy and communication to raise awareness, stimulate WI action and share information
- Joint learning and sharing experience among network members and strategic partners and sharing results on Website
- Mobilizing and facilitating coalitions of WIN members and strategic partner to maximize impact particularly at country level.
- Facilitating, encouraging and building capacity for the development of Country Based WI Scans and WI Action Programmes
- Monitoring and reporting on progress.
The WIN secretariat is a lean entity relying on expertise of members and partners, including the IRC- The International Water and Sanitation Centre, SIWI- The Stockholm International Water Institute, Transparency International, AQUAFED and regional organizations.
Description of Internship
Main function: Assisting the WIN Secretariat
Starting Date: 1 March 2010 (or earlier as feasible)
Duration: Three months, with possible extension of another three months
Remuneration: EUR 400 per month, if the internship is not sponsored by a third party
Location: Berlin, Germany
Key responsibilities:
- General office management;
- Supporting team members with travel planning and travel cost reimbursement;
- Responding to requests for assistance/information by WIN members;
- Managing the “info” e-mail account;
- Assist in maintenance of membership database and other membership issues;
- Distribute materials/ publications when needed;
- Help with writing news items and maintaining the WIN web site;
- Other tasks may arise depending on the need of the WIN Secretariat.
- Assist with organizing the WIN Steering Committee meetings and other meetings and international conferences as necessary;
Knowledge, experience and skills:
- Strong computer skills (MS OFFICE)
- Self motivating, initiative, keen to learn and work in a team
- Service oriented with excellent written communication skills
- Fluency in English as WIN’s principal working language as well as Spanish or French is required, as all WIN communication is in these three languages. Working knowledge in other UN languages is an advantage.
- Exposure to other cultures and continents.
- Affinity with the WIN mission and objectives focusing the water sector specifically
- Preferred candidates would have some experience in supporting the organization of international workshops and seminars.
- Higher educational background relating to water sector or environmental management would be an advantage.

The TI Secretariat in Berlin is seeking a highly motivated intern for its External Resources Department.
Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 90 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
The External Resources Department is responsible for fundraising and donor management for the TI Secretariat. We sit at the centre of the organisation, having strong relationships with all of the regional, thematic, research, communications and support teams at the secretariat. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience of fundraising from a diverse range of international donors.
Description of Internship:
Main function: Supporting the External Resources Department
Starting Date: Mid-April
Duration: Six months (with a review after two months), full time
Remuneration: EUR 400 net per month
Location: Berlin, Germany
Key responsibilities:
- Preparation of substantial pre-award documentation for grants
- Assisting in the management of donor relations (email and written correspondence)
- Assisting in internal reporting and preparation of publications
- Identifying and researching new funding opportunities
- Support towards specific funding applications to bilateral, foundation and corporate donors on a case by case basis
- General administrative support
Knowledge, experience and skills:
- University student or recent graduate, preferably of Communications, social sciences disciplines or Economics
- Strong interest in anti-corruption and resource mobilisation
- Fluent written and spoken English. Further language skills, particularly European languages, are an asset
- Strong organisation skills and attention to detail
- Strong research capacities
- Experience and excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. Other Microsoft Office applications an asset. Good internet skills.
- Very good people skills, dedication, and the ability to contribute fully to the workings of the department and the secretariat
- Prior office experience is an asset

Main function: Support of Oracle software integration
Starting Date: Preferably on 15th of February 2010
Duration: six months; full time Mon – Fri (40 hrs week)
Remuneration: 400 €/m according to TI Internship Guidelines

Key responsibilities:
- Support for the integration of Oracle financial and project management software (implementation finalized in 2010)
- Support of the daily external tasks: project budgeting, donor reporting…
- Support of the daily internal tasks: accounting, IFRS, closing…
- Collection, review, input and handling of key financial information (e.g. financial statements and procurement requirements)
Knowledge, experience and skills:
- Strong background in Corporate Finance, Project Management, IT
- Complete fluency in written and spoken English (German is a definite asset)
- Good team player
- Previous international experience is an advantage
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office environment (accurate Excel use essential)

Internship - Transparency International’s Advocacy Department
The TI Secretariat in Berlin is seeking a highly motivated, pro-active intern to support its work in the Advocacy Department of the TI Secretariat in Berlin, working primarily with Advocacy Director Mr Casey Kelso.

Through more than 90 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
Vision
TI’s advocacy is defined as “Critical but constructive engagement with all stakeholders (aiming to include local communities) focusing on a process of change.” There are three broad goals for this work:
- EXTERNAL to TI-S - Advocating to strategically influence key stakeholders at the international, regional and national level in the fight against corruption. The prime vehicle for this will be the TI Global Campaign, currently in the research and design phase, and a collective advocacy effort on corruption risks in climate governance.
- INTERNAL to TI-S - Facilitating the development of internal TI-S strategies, organizational partnerships and resources (internal understanding and skills supported by materials and training) to create culture change within TI towards an advocacy orientation.
- BROADER TI MOVEMENT - Building a network of individuals with the capacity to plan, implement and monitor advocacy among TI National movement. Training TI members in Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific in workshops conducted on specific anti-corruption projects.
Description of Internship
Main function: Assisting the Advocacy Director in this work
Starting Date: 2 February 2010
Duration: Three to six months (full time)
Remuneration: As per the internship guidelines (EUR €400 per month if the internship is not sponsored by a third party)
Location: Berlin, Germany
Key responsibilities:
- Assisting with the implementation of a number of specific advocacy skill building projects, including with TI-S regional programmes (Africa, Middle East, Asia-Pacific and East & Central Europe); including the development of a TI Advocacy Manual;
- Liaising with contact groups and National Chapters on advocacy and the TI Global Campaign;
- Other various administrative tasks and support to a major advocacy initiative around climate governance risks.
- Assisting with the coordinated response to security concerns for TI National Chapters, as necessary;
- Assisting with the mapping and data collection of external stakeholders
Knowledge, experience and skills:
- Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken) is a requirement; a working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is a strong asset.
- Experience in campaigning, activism and/or journalism(required);
- Some knowledge of, and considerable interest in, the work of TI and the field of anti-corruption (required);
- Some prior office experience very desirable;
