Internship in TI-S GOVERNANCE UNIT

The TI Secretariat in Berlin is seeking a highly motivated intern for the TI-S GOVERNANCE UNIT
Description of Internship

Main Function:

TI's internal governance system and Annual Membership Meeting

Starting date:

Mid August 2009

Duration:

Three months; full time Monday to Friday

Remuneration:

EUR 400 per month, if the internship is not sponsored by the third party

Location:

Berlin, Germany

Key Responsibilites:

  • Assist the preparation of TI's international Annual Membership Meeting (scheduled to take place in Berlin, Germany, in mid October 2009)
  • Assistance in correspondence with TI partners throughout the world

Knowledge, experience and skills:

  • Excellent English
  • German as an advantage
  • Solid computer skills (email, MS word and MS Excel)
  • Prior office experience required
  • Experience in conference/event organising as an advantage
  • Students of International Law, Economics or other social science disciplines are encouraged to apply

Internship in POLICY AND RESEARCH DEPARTMENT

The TI Secretariat in Berlin is seeking a highly motivated intern for the POLICY AND RESEARCH DEPARTMENT
Description of Internship

Main function:

Assist the research, analysis, organisational and administrative work of the team on a variety of corruption related themes.

Dates:

3 August to 31 December 2009.

Duration:

Five months; full time Monday to Friday.

Remuneration:

EUR 400 net per month for non-sponsored candidates.

Location:

Berlin, Germany

Key responsibilities:

The successful candidate will provide key support to the Policy and Research Department based in TI’s global secretariat in Berlin, Germany. The department leads the organisation’s advocacy work on anti-corruption, coordinating a range of complementary policy and research products and activities. Specific initiatives include the production of corruption measurement tools, such as the Corruption Perceptions Index, the Bribe Payers Index, the Global Corruption Barometer and National Integrity System Country Studies. The department’s intern will be asked to perform key tasks, including:

  • Contributing to research and advocacy activities required for the production and publishing of TI’s working and policy position paper series (including climate change, corporate responsibility and forestry governance).
  • Conducting and contributing to quantitative and qualitative analysis on anti-corruption indices, indicators and monitoring systems, including the production of graphs and databases that draw on the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), Global Corruption Barometer and Bribe Payer’s Index (BPI).
  • Assisting the U4 Helpdesk (www.transparency.org/policy_research/u4_helpdesk) with research as needed to respond to demand-driven queries
  • Supporting department administrative work on related policy and research events, workshops and activities.

Requirements:

  • Advanced university degree in public policy, international law, international studies, development economics or a related social science field
  • Some background in current anti-corruption discourse, policies and players.
  • Previous experience working on higher level research and/or advocacy activities with a think tank or non governmental organization.
  • Strong research and writing skills; editing experience preferred
  • Familiarity with carrying out quantitative research and analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, independently and balancing multiple tasks.
  • Excellent spoken and written English. Arabic, French and/or Spanish language an asset
